Hamlet Road’s fanlights and unhorned sashes
Hamlet House at 35 Hamlet Road is an early-eighteenth-century house altered around 1800. Its official entry describes timber framing encased in rendered brick, unhorned sash windows and a six-panel entrance door beneath a seven-vane fanlight. The ground-floor windows are tripartite, while the first floor has six-over-six sashes. A casement lights the attic dormer.

For a home with comparable surviving details, an enquiry photograph should include the fanlight and the stepped entrance as well as the door. A sash horn, the small projecting extension at a rail joint, is another detail to record rather than add by habit. Note differences between the wider ground-floor assembly and upper openings.

Survey and installation coverage for Haverhill
Haverhill is listed in our Bury St Edmunds service area. Arrange a free home survey with your postcode and project details.

Keep Hamlet Road and Queen Street checks separate
Use West Suffolk’s conservation maps and appraisals for the correct Haverhill location. Check the specific building and proposed work, including any listed-building or Article 4 requirements. A heritage product description cannot substitute for the relevant consent.
If the job will be carried out in stages, mark the first-phase openings and those that will remain. Agree how the new finish and frame details should relate to later phases, and request those details in the quotation rather than relying on a verbal colour description.
Tell us how the property is reached and whether frames would need to be carried through the house to a rear opening. Include the postcode so the home visit can be arranged from the existing service network; the coverage listings are not a claim of a separate Haverhill office.

Which conservation information is relevant to my Haverhill home? +
West Suffolk lists Hamlet Road and Queen Street separately. Start with the relevant map and appraisal, then ask the council about controls affecting your particular address and proposal.
How much does a timber window cost? +
Every piece is made to measure, so price depends on size, style, timber and glazing. That’s why we offer a free home survey and a detailed, no-obligation quotation.
Can I replace Haverhill windows in phases? +
Describe the intended phases in the enquiry and identify the windows that remain. Ask the specification to record the frame details and finish so later work can be planned with the earlier installation in mind.
Why record sash horns on a Hamlet Road survey? +
Hamlet House’s listing specifically identifies unhorned sashes. The presence or absence of horns is therefore worth documenting when investigating the building’s window design; a generic period-window description would miss it. See the source record.
