Market Place: tripartite windows below dormer sashes
Number 20 Market Place is recorded as an early-nineteenth-century house reworked later in that century, with commercial use at ground level. Its yellow-brick front has tripartite sash windows below, three first-floor sashes and further sashes in two hipped dormers. A central partly glazed door sits between pilasters beneath a continuous cornice. The listing includes the building for group value.

A Woburn project involving both street-level and attic openings needs more than a count of windows. Separate the tripartite assemblies from the dormer sashes and photograph the cornice that connects the ground-floor bays. Identify commercial and residential access arrangements before the survey so each opening can be assessed in context.

Coverage and visiting your Woburn property
Woburn is included in our Bedford service area for surveys and installation.
Bedford coverage and local guides. Related nearby coverage: Wixams, Bedford.
Our Bedford page lists the office at 38 Mill Street, Bedford; the survey itself is at your Woburn property. Please arrange any office visit in advance. For the home survey, describe the entrance, parking and access to all relevant rooms rather than assuming the address gives enough information for the visit.

Start with the building’s own record
If your Woburn property is listed, read its individual entry and check the proposal with Central Bedfordshire’s conservation team. An entry can help identify features, but it is not an exhaustive inventory of everything that matters. Ask whether repair is appropriate before removing existing historic frames, glass or internal joinery.
Photograph bars, mouldings, sill profiles and the door surround as well as the general view. If an entrance includes a fanlight, include it in the schedule even if only the door leaf is being discussed. Distinguish original elements from later replacements where you have evidence; label anything uncertain so it can be examined at the survey.

Are the listed buildings mentioned here Schnauber installations? +
No. Historic England’s building record is used only to explain local architectural detail. It is not a claim that Schnauber has worked on that property.
How much does a timber window cost? +
Every piece is made to measure, so price depends on size, style, timber and glazing. That’s why we offer a free home survey and a detailed, no-obligation quotation.
Should a Woburn replacement copy a nearby listed house? +
Use your own building as the starting point. A neighbouring sash may have different proportions, bars and surrounds. Record the existing details and any evidence for a proposed change before choosing the specification.
Why list Woburn dormer windows separately from ground-floor windows? +
At 20 Market Place, the list distinguishes dormer sashes from the wider tripartite assemblies below. They have different positions and surrounding details, so separate photographs and schedule entries make the proposed work clearer. See the source record.
